Reynolds Lake Oconee is proud to announce its first employee to reach 30-year tenure. Ronald McWhorter began working at the first golf course on Lake Oconee, Port Armor, in June 1986, eventually becoming part of the Reynolds community in 2005, and is now the Golf Course Superintendent at The Landing.

Prior to joining the Reynolds team almost 31 years ago, McWhorter worked at Holmes Golf Course Construction Company and Stafford Roof Trusses Co. Throughout his years spent with Reynolds, McWhorter has enjoyed watching the community, which he calls a family, grow and have a positive impact on Greene and Putnam Counties. In addition to this, McWhorter enjoys knowing he can make an impact as well.

“We have the chance to improve the conditions and playability of the course,” says McWhorter when asked about his favorite aspects of the job. “We do it for the Members and their guests. When they are happy, I am pleased.”

In his spare time, McWhorter enjoys playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his family, wife Shanta and children Kirsten and Kursten. He also devotes much of his time to giving back to the community, and believes in doing things from the heart rather than for the wallet. McWhorter was recently recognized for all of his efforts, as a recipient of the Reynolds Helping Hand Award for 2016.

“Ronald is a terrific asset to our team,” says Lane Singleton, Vice President of Agronomy at Reynolds Lake Oconee. “After all these years, he knows the course so well and always ensures that it is in perfect condition for our Members and guests.”
