Meet Scott Hoersten, one of the original visionaries behind Reynolds Lake Oconee’s growth and character. Since joining the team in 1985, Scott has helped shape nearly every part of the community, and now continues his legacy through his work with the Reynolds real estate team.

What’s something clients are often surprised to learn about you?

My history with Reynolds started in 1985 after the original land came out of the Land Trust that grandfather Mercer Reynolds had placed on the land before he passed away. The firm I worked for was hired for the initial land planning consulting for the Reynolds family at that time. After working for 3 years as the firm’s project manager, the Reynolds family hired me to oversee the Planning and Development of Reynolds Plantation, which included working with the all the golf course architects on the routing and development of the courses, as well as most of the roads, lots, amenities, and utilities during my first 22 years.

Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Reynolds?

Following my first consulting visit, I remember telling Anne (my wife) that if we ever had to leave our home on Hilton Head Island, I could move to a place like Lake Oconee. She was curious and agreed to come with me on a subsequent visit, with our 2-year-old son, David. While driving down a dirt and gravel road for 5-6 miles at 10:00 at night, before pulling in to the Reynolds family lakefront place for the night, she thought that I’d perhaps somehow lost my mind, and that I was taking her to the site for the movie ‘Deliverance’. However, once morning came and she was able to see the lake and hear the vision of what this place could become, she saw things from a somewhat different perspective…but still had her doubts about me.

When you’re not working, where can we find you around the lake?

Being in real estate, there’s not a lot of time that I’m not working. When I do have some free time, my favorite place is being on the lake on our pontoon boat, visiting with our daughters and grandkids, with whom Anne enjoys having a ‘dance-a-thon’, or listening to a Braves game and enjoying the sunset.
